End of Month - at the dock house

Saturday, July 31st, 2010 by diane

We are crabbing again at the dock house. As Nat crack open the crab and broke it in halves, Frank said “he’s not doing so good” referring to the crab. Frank loves to go out on the boat with Nat. When he comes back he tells me “no crabs. just rock and females” in a very matter of fact tone.

We got naps x 2 and that led to s’mores. Timmy is completely a mess and when Nat said “how am I going to clean you up?” Timmy answered “with a graham cracker.”

The boys continue to wake up at 6 while Nat and I tries to possum. I probably wrote about those wonderful big hugs from Timmy. I asked for one in the morning while still in bed and he said “I give you a big hug if you wake up now.” I actually did. Anything for one of those hugs. But in the process of getting one we bonked heads. No more hugs for me. Not from Timmy anyways. Frank is starting to give me big hugs when I ask. His is very firm and he squeezes me hard. And a big kiss usually follows. Sometimes one on each cheek and even one on my forehead. Like the way I kiss him at bedtime I guess.

We rolled some of the logs out to the wood pile and Frank took many loads of leaves and sticks with his dump trunk to the fire pit. We burned off pile the night before so he gathered up a new pile. Then it started to smoke. I guess the fire was not completely out even after 12 hours. WOW! We fussed at it but it continued to smoke. Finally we poured water on it and little shoots of dust and air bursts out as the water hits the hot spots. Frank thought it was so cool and called it a volcano.

This morning we tried to keep the boys in the tent. Nat even locked our door. But Timmy started to cry cuz he crashed or something. So I went to possum in the tent. Timmy pulls his pj pants all the way up to expose his legs and then tell me he is princess. “What kind?” I ask. He thinks about it and replies “pj princess.” Then he got up and pulled my hand telling me “come upstairs to dance with me.”

Last night Nat tells the boys we will go to Roche Harbor for ice cream. First thing in the morning Timmy says “Mommy, can I have some ice cream?” Not til after lunch. “I don’t like food. I just like ice cream.” “But I want ice cream cuz I like ice cream.” “I already had dinner.” None of those response (while cute) got him ice cream at 7am. So we are having lunch and Timmy puts a french fry in his mouth with the two ends sticking out. “Look mom, I’m a walrus.” Sometimes he is calling me “mom” and Nat “dad”

Summer camp

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010 by diane

Frank and Timmy attends summer camp at the coop for the first time. I worked on the first day but the next morning it was going to be just the boys. Unexpectedly, Frank tells me he doesn’t want Timmy to go. I guess Timmy has only been there when I worked during the school year so Frank didn’t think he was staying this time. He insisted I take him home. Timmy didn’t do too well without me. Maybe he thought I was staying too. He had an accident in the playground right before I came for pickup. Miss Susan assured me he had a great time all morning. He observed lots and didn’t participate in the crafts. When we got home and I asked Frank what he did at camp, he told me the crafts he made, a new song he learned, the usual run down. When I asked Timmy, he said “I cried and I cried and then I peed and then you came.” I would feel terrible if that was true. Frank assured me Timmy did not cry at all. I asked Timmy if he was “sad and missed me” he said “yeah” and smiled. He did respond positively to going the next day so it must have been fun. The third day they were all in the playground eating popsicles when I arrived. Frank continues to not want Timmy at camp. Maybe he sees it as his school still and that his territory is being invaded. He loves the idea of going to Whitney next year so I keep telling him that soon the preschool will be Timmy’s school. Didn’t help much. Fun times none the less.

June - July updates for Frank

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010 by diane

Frank is getting pretty good at paddling in the kayak, especially when there are no wind or waves. Grandma or I just sits and he paddles.

Back in June Frank caught his first fish at the Fishing Derby. He is enjoying being by the water, on the boat, etc.

Sport camps : First we did baseball and Frank hated it. He stood out in the field and gave me dirty looks. The second day he was crying in the field and Gabby from his preschool had to comfort him and hold his hand to walk from station to station in the field. Then we pulled out with the agreement that we try soccer. He got anxious as usual before soccer but had a good time on the field. The coaches got him running and laughing. He continued to refuse to go each morning but after getting out there on the field he had a great time. We did all five days and promised to not sign up for any more sports.

Vacation Bible School : Frank and his new friend (our neighbor) Steven went to VBS at First Baptist. He was scared but having Steven there really helped. Then there were some preschool friends there too. After 2 nights of 5-8:30pm we decided to stay home for dinner and show up at 6 instead. By the 4th day Frank was singing the songs and telling us what they were learning. He still didn’t want to go on the last day. We kept Timmy up and all went to pick Frank up on the last day. He actually did have a great time even if he won’t admit to it. Maybe next year we’ll try again =).

Frank now likes eggs. He used to only eat the white part of my egg but now he will eat one himself. He also enjoys it scrambled.

The latest development is Frank can button and unbutton his own shirt. It takes him awhile and he is extremely proud when he is finished.

May Updates

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010 by diane

5/1 - We drive out to grandma’s house and Timmy was cuddled up in a blanket the whole car ride there. We thought he was so cute. Earlier of course Frank was fighting with Timmy over the blanket. So on the drive back home, Frank finally got the blanket and sitting in the carseat he wrapped it around himself and said “granny, I’m cute.” Yes he has gone from dama to granny for grandma.

Timmy is carrying around Frank’s two pencils. One of the tip broke off. Timmy tells me “it broke” I asked “who broke it?” He said “somebody else” Timmy is indecisive on the lemonade at lunch. “I like it. I don’t like it.” On repeat and entertained everyone.

5/2 - Frank wakes up late today. He comes into my room and says “Mommy, it’s 7-3-3. Time to wake up.” I looked at the clock and indeed 7:33. I ignored him. He said “how many minutes then we get up? 5? 1?” We decided on 1.

Bath time with Ariel: Frank was talking about poison again. He is pouring poison into Ariel’s tail. I tell him mermaids don’t have poison. He said she does. So when Evil Ursula comes, Ariel will ‘fong pi’ (fart) poison onto Ursula.

———————————————————————-
May is almost over so here is a summary. Timmy is potty trained! We had some ups and downs and eventually popsicles pulled through for us. He pees standing on a stepping stool and poops in his little potty. He pulls his pants down and takes them off. Then takes his socks off too before going poop. He needs privacy so he calls me when done and bends over for cleanup. I never had to show him how to do that. He does exactly when Frank does, so he has been watching. His little butt sticking in the air. He always gets to the mat before bending.

Frank and Timmy fights over the bb’s and everything else. One time Frank wanted the kitty cat stuff animal and Timmy said no. He threw my old expired credit card and Frank and said you can have this. Frank said ok and picked it up. Then Timmy decided he wanted the credit card. Frank said “Timmy you have to decide. You can’t have both. You already picked.” It all sounded good until he tried to hit Timmy. Then he saw me looking and immediately said sorry. Yes now when Timmy cries Frank will say “I already said sorry.”

Frank climbs up the pillars of the house. At first only on one side. Now he climbs on one side, reach the top, moves to the other side and comes down. He does it every moment he gets. He has to take his socks off so every morning when he is already dressed for school we end up late because he takes his socks off and climbs. Then Timmy also stripes down cuz he needs to be in his PJs all day long. He doesn’t like the pants, the shirt and he just starts to take them off. He can’t take shirts off yet but he always takes his pants off.

April Growth

Sunday, April 18th, 2010 by diane

4/2 - We are selling raffle tickets for the preschool fundraiser. After doing this twice Frank is getting more vocal. He told one lady who said no “You need to buy one!” She turned around and said “maybe I will” and did. One lady brought one and came back to buy another for her husband. Frank said “and one for your grandma” She told him her grandma is long gone. Frank said “no, she’s at home.” A guy asks Frank “what’s your name?” Frank replied “Franklin Hao Tian. But I’m tired of that name.” I tired to explain he is tired of tracing his Chinese name but Frank stood up for himself and said “no, I’m tired of Franklin. I want to be princess motorboat planet earth.”

4/15 - Half way in the month already. Some highlights:
Timmy jumps both feet off the ground and pretty high. He likes to jump on the trampoline, off the stairs, off his bed. Sometimes he will motion to jump and then decide it is too dangerous and ask to hold his hand. He likes it when you hold both hands and lift him up high in the jump.

Frank’s new name is contrarian. He denies it and says his name is princess. That just further establishes his contrarian-ness (if that is a word). He says the negative all the time and even when given a choice he chooses “nothing” This is rubbing off on Timmy too. Now Timmy says “nothing”. Even when you say “I’m going to do … ” He will say “no you are not”. It is getting quite annoying. We’ve said it enough now with Frank denying it and claiming to be princess that Timmy responds, “I’m contrarian, Frank is princess.”

Aside from the usual obsession with princesses, Frank’s new topic is scorpions. He was coloring one from his book and asked what it is. I started to explain without much thought. And as I described the stinger and the poison, his face turned white and was about to cry. It was too late to take back what was said so I emphasized that they don’t like here and mommy has never seen a real one, etc, etc. Every day he would ask about scorpions. Why do they have a stinger? How come they sting you? Why do they not live here? Where do they live? In the forest? What is a desert? Several days later during a playdate I hear Frank saying this gun is loaded with one thousand poisons. And they are doing around shooting at things. The questions continued… Does the sting hurt more than bees? Can baby scorpions sting? Finally I got 2 books from the library for him. We started to read one and he ran off. Told me to return it. But the questions didn’t stop so I said I will read the book to learn. He agreed I can read silently. Although Timmy insists “mommy, talk?” Frank runs back and forth to stay away from the book but also to see what page I’m on. The second book was slightly more successful. Not sure why. But we managed to read it aloud. We discovered that scorpions live in Africa. Well, is there a scorpion where grandma is in Kenya? Is desert hot like Mexico? Does scorpions live in Mexico? So I told him desert has no water and only cactus live there. So this week we are at the dock house to help water the plants. Frank says “I don’t want to water the cactus. They live in the desert where scorpions are.”

Timmy says “abcdefghijklmnopqrstuv” “How about this one?” “maybe” “I forgot” “I’m contrarian” “I do it myself.” Or “I do it” No more “do di” “Was good?” “That not good.” He counts more or less randomly. But for awhile it was “one, two, five, six, nine, ten” Then five was lost but he continues to eleven, twelve, thirteen. Now if you count “one two three four” he would repeat rather than doing “one two five six” again. He often says “mercy mommy, [something new he sees]”

4/15 - I come out to the garage in ready to take Frank to school. Both kids are halfway in the car yelling. Frank yells “I’m going to school.” Timmy “I’m going to dance class.” They took turns nicely and I was also surprised Timmy didn’t just repeat what Frank was saying and knew where Timmy was going instead. As the garbage truck pulls away Frank asks me “he[garbage man] didn’t tell me his name”

We arrived at the dock house. Frank calls the dock house neighbor dogs “yappie” and is concerned they will wake him up. He says “you know what I need?” I was thinking oh no not another scorpion stinging wish. “Earplugs” For a while he kept saying “those yappie dogs are going to yap into the bay.”

Upon arrival, Timmy says “mommy, put out the ding dings.” So we obliged to put grandma’s fancy wind-chime out.

4/16 - Timmy sees ant on the dock steps. He steps on it. I tell him they live here outside and not to kill it. He stepped on it again. Ant gone. Where is ant? On your shoe. Timmy is terrified until I check under his shoe and assures him the ant is not there. On a similar note, he was blowing dandelion seeds and freaked out when some landed on his sleeve. The horror! He is so curious yet scared. He wants to see the hermit crab. He gets a shell and tells me to scoop a big one out for him. I did but he didn’t think it was big. Oh well.

4/17 - Frank finishes the new rain forest puzzle again. Hmm, a poisonous frog. Many questions about this new animal with poison. We’ll have to hit the library again.

Timmy and Frank does collaborative play. Maybe my first obvious observed moment. Timmy puts the stomp rocket on and Frank stomps it high. One time Timmy was still working on it and Frank stomped so the air blew at Timmy. They both laughed and laughed. Frank promises not to do it but does it again. More laughing. He stopped while it was still funny.

Frank is asking questions about words but really they are syllables of words. Mommy, what is ’sin’? Huh? (I was perplexed as to where he’s even heard of the word) That was quickly resolved when he said “you know, cin in cinderella.” Well that is not a word. Sort of, maybe. On a similiar note, Frank asked “what is ‘hell’?” I just looked at him. Then he said “you know, like in hell-o”.

4/20 - Early in the morning the kids woke up and came down as usual and came to my bed. Frank always run down first and climbs on top of me to snuggle. And to take up all the space before Timmy comes. Timmy then arrives and climbs on. He pushes Frank away to make room. I get Frank to move to one side so Timmy gets the other side. Timmy continues to push and says “I want all three sides.” Mommy only has 2!

4/22 - Timmy is up early while Frank is still asleep. Daddy get him some milk and breakfast and he sits on his highchair and starts to talk non-stop. This goes on for over an hour and I’m wondering how Frank is sleeping through all the noise. Large part of the conversation was about the elmo bunny easter egg. He opens it and closes it. He needs help. He doesn’t need help. He did it. He dropped it. He picks it up. He tells you every detail of what he is doing. I call him a ’silly goose’ He replies, “I’m not silly goose. I’m silly duck. quack quack quack….” For about a min he quacks” Still Frank sleeps.

4/27 - Frank and Timmy’s first rollerskating experience. Frank did not want to do it. Timmy tried the shoes and then Frank wanted to as well. Timmy loved just falling and being silly for the first half hour. My arms were pulled to the max. Frank walked slowly also pulling my arm but in a different direction. Finally he tried without holding me. And later went to hold his classmate’s hand. We had a brief lesson and one part it taught how to fall on our bottoms. Frank did not want to try that. He just preferred not to fall. Good time. Heavy skates. Long naps for everyone.

4/28 - Timmy finds his old toy phone and plays and plays until Frank gets home. Frank started to play with it. Timmy said “Frank, that’s my phone.” Frank replies, “no, it’s everyone’s.” I held my tongue to see what would happen. Timmy said “Frank, share.” Well Frank didn’t and Timmy then came to tell on him for not sharing =)

4/29 - We are loading up the car to take Frank to school. Timmy goes outside and come back into the garage saying “I tell birdie get off my grass.”

4/30 - This morning surprisingly Timmy got to my bed first. And he took up all the space. Frank came and said “Timmy, if you don’t get out of my way I will squash you into a pancake.” No response from Timmy. Holding his ground. Frank adds “And then I will put you in the oven.” Still nothing. Then we resorted to brute force.

Timmy knocks down his milk and won’t go pick it up. Daddy asks him “who knocked it down?” Timmy looks around and said “It not me.”

Frank is climbing up the support beams of the house with Nat’s help. Video will be coming soon.

No dates - Timmy is giving me kisses like I give him. Little kiss on one side, little kiss on the other side, big kiss on one side and finally big kiss on the other side. Unlike him, I’m not wipe wiping them off. Sometimes he wipes it off for me. Sometimes not.

Timmy and Frank are doing some of the Chinese CD songs. I hear Frank start it and Timmy will finish it off. Timmy also likes ‘two little black bird sitting in a tree, one name Jack and one name Jill. Fly away Jack, fly away Jill, come back Jack, come back Jill.” Often he says “fly away”

March Updates

Thursday, March 11th, 2010 by diane

3/1 - Timmy woke up screaming from his nap. Often he does that and sometimes he goes back to sleep after some patting. This time he was crying and Frank asked why. I told him maybe Timmy had a bad dream. Frank said “maybe he dreamed he had chocolate cake but he can’t have it for breakfast.” I gave him a quizzical look and asked if that is what he dreams. Frank answered “sometime I dream that but I don’t know how to dream.”

3/3 - Timmy says “not yet”. Frank is frequently giving Timmy choices. Frank says “Timmy, give me the ball or the phone” Timmy says “nothing”. Makes Frank really mad.

3/5 - At the dock house Timmy finds a penny. “mommy, penny, get it, mommy get it.” Finally I humor him and pretend like I can’t reach it behind the harpsichord. He shows me to go around the chair. I tell him I can’t fit. He says “come here, grab.” Finally he gave up on me and went for it himself. He hit some spider webs and told me “dirty! mommy get it.” The penny is still there.

Undated - Frank managed to wake up and come down without waking Timmy this morning. Later Timmy woke up screaming and crying. So Frank concluded that Timmy misses him and next time he should wake Timmy up and they can both come down together to wake me up. Sigh.

3/9 - Dinner is pot roast. We often tell Frank dinner is steak when it is beef cuz he loves steak. Well the serving plate came and I sliced up chunks for him and he said “steak is suppose to be pink.” Nat was very proud.

3/10 - We played pretend camping under blankets the day before and had lots of fun. Today in the morning Frank wanted more before school. So I did but he said “It’s not fun without Timmy”

3/11 - The boys left plastic chairs outside yesterday and there was big winds this morning. So the chairs got blown away. Timmy said “where are the chairs? huh?” Frank told me “That’s the first time Timmy said ‘huh”. He must be growing big.
Over lunch Frank bit his lip. Nat said poor little Frank. Timmy said “no, big Frank”. Then Timmy and Frank argued over “big Frank” “little Frank” Finally Timmy said “big Frank. Little Timmy.”

3/12 - Phonics is Frank’s new thing. He tries to sound out every word to see what letter it starts with. And he ofter says, “I’m thinking of a word that starts with …” And I have to guess. If the letter is ‘P’ half the time it is princess. Anyways, today he came to me as usual with “Do you know what starts with bababa B? Boat” After a few regular ones I decided to throw him a new letter: J. Right away he said “jajajaja jellybean.” I thought ok, it is almost Easter. Then he said “wuwuwu” and I thought now he is changing to anther letter. But then he said to my surprise “Joaquin”. I think it also surprised him cuz he had this confused look on his face.

3/12 - Frank continues to play princess. This time both Frank and Timmy requested blankets to be wrapped around them like skirts. Then they walked around the room and climb on the bed and jump around until the blanket comes off and we do it again. Mommy fix Timmy would say. Frank asked me do you want me to be a fairy, or a princess or a ballerina? I said how about a bird? He told me that was not a choice. And if I tell him anything he wants, he makes me choose. Finally I said fairy. So then he leaped off his bed with a pinwheel (that is his princess wand). He said, “I can’t really fly since I don’t have wings.” Then he wanted to dance with the king. I refused. Daddy was working. So he said, “Timmy, you want to hold my hand?” Timmy did and they walked together hand in hand to Timmy’s bed and climbed in to jump off again.

3/13 - Timmy after getting out of his chair and climbing into Nat’s usual seat at the dinner table said “Sit in daddy chair. Ha ha.”

3/14 - Chinese HW continues. And Frank always asks why he needs to trace his name every time. Well out of nowhere today he said “hao” means enormous, fat. Well, it means vast, not fat, but I guess the subtle difference is hard for a 4 year old.

3/14 - Nat takes the kids to grocery store and in the process they get free cookies at the bakery section. At checkout Nat asked Timmy what he wanted for lunch. Timmy said “this” holding up his cookie.

3/14 - Grandma is here playing….princess. Except this version has Frank wearing the blanket like a cape rather than dress. He has the wand for a bit then he switched to a squirt gun. Next thing I know he comes down and says mommy I have to show you something. He has a t-shirt and underpants on with a flowery blanket as a cape. He says “mommy I can pee through the hole.” I was like “what?” Then he showed me the hole in his underwear and how he can get his thing out to pee. Nice. “Come mommy I’ll show you” as we headed to the bathroom. It was a milestone moment I couldn’t miss.

Undated - Timmy now says “A-B-C-D-E” which is a progression from just ABC awhile ago. He also counts lots. Mostly he is reciting numbers he has heard Frank or me do. But this time he took one out and said “One” and then took another one putting it next to the first and said “two” and then one more and said “three”. Another frequent phrase from Timmy is “scuse me. my way”

3/15 - For the very first time Timmy said “daddy you in jail”. I was wondering when he was going to pick that up from Frank. Every time Frank is mad at Nat he sends him in jail.

3/15 - Frank got avocados that was in the fridge. I heard him say “this is freakin cold” I had this expression on my face and in my head tried to think where he could have picked up that word and Nat looked at me as if reading my mind and told me hhh”he said freezing cold. I thought that too.”

3/16 - Again we are playing princess. After bath no one wanted to be dressed. Frank says he like Jasmine the best because she shows her bellybutton. Well I convinced him she still wears a shirt and got a T-shirt on him and twisted the bottom up so his belly was showing. Then I insisted she wore pants. That lead to proving it with pictures of her on the computer. Which led to a video of the song “A Whole New World”. Which led to the need for more. It was denied and Frank screamed and kicked and disaster. He did put his pants on before all this. Even Timmy wanted more but I managed to distract him with a rice cake. Timmy kept saying “Frank cry” and “where is Frank?” Thrown in his room is where.

3/17 - Timmy said “I do it” for the very first time. Still saying “do di” but three times today he said “I do it”. And he counted “one, two, three, five, six, eight, nine”. After dinner he was pointing at stuff in the air saying “w” “w” “w”. No idea what he meant.

3/18 - Another dock house visit. As we wait for the ferry we explore the beach. There are little crabs. Frank holds one in his hand for the first time. Later he picks one up by himself. Timmy is fascinated but will not touch. He watches the crab crawl under the rock. “Mommy, see crab. Come here.”

At the dock house Frank is doing the new rain forest puzzle. Grandpa asks “Do you know how to do it? I can’t believe you can do it by yourself.” Frank replies “you know! You seen me do it.”

Timmy says “Cousin Linda”. But Cousin John is referred to as “this”

3/21 - Frank asks “Grandpa, when are you going home?” Hmm, already tired of grandpa? Grandpa says “You want me to go home?” Frank says “No. I want you to stay forever.”

3/22 - In the morning Timmy wakes up and climb into my bed. He goes under the covers and then says “it’s hot” and climbed out.

3/23 - Bath time Frank is playing with his jiji. He has discovered that he can make it disappear. He tells me, “mommy, look, jiji gone. just skin left.” I smile and nod. Timmy imitated Frank but not sure so he puts a wash rag over his jiji and plays peek-a-boo. “jiji gone. there it is.” All fine until Frank says, “Timmy you want to touch it?” Timmy says enthusiastically, “yeah”. Ok, time for intervention. “Keep your hands to yourself!” “Why, how come?” oh boy!

3/25 - Timmy says how come lots now. Today he asked “how come go this way?” as I drove the car. He is also a big big tattle tale. Frank will have barely touched him and Timmy says “Frank pinched me” Today he said “Frank stole my side” referring to the side of the shower door they both stand at while I’m showering.

At school, the Easter Bunny visits and Frank got two eggs. But he lost one and is sad because one is for grandma and the other for Akamai. Then he decided the Easter Bunny will also visit Akamai’s school. We discussed if it will also visit Grandma in Kenya. Frank said no because the Easter Bunny might crash into an elephant. Two days ago grandpa explained to Frank they have to pack flashlights because it is so dark there they might crash into an elephant without a flashlight.

3/26 - Frank blows up a balloon for the first time. He kept trying and trying and has now learned to pinch the balloon while getting another breathe.

Timmy said “pick nose” in the car. I had to turn around to see if he had some snot on his finger. Instead I see him holding his hand in the fashion that grandpa has done when playing a game of stealing Timmy’s nose. The thumb sticking out of the fist. Timmy said “there’s nose. eat it.” which is what grandpa says during this game.

Timmy points to the LEGO catalog and says “should we build this?” Frank says “No Timmy, we don’t have all the pieces.” Usually Frank asks me to build from the catalog and I tell him I can’t.

Timmy says “dangerous”, “daddy read this ladybug book”, “Frank are you done?”, “Frank pinched me” (my little tattle tail)

3/28 - Timmy is not eating his lunch so daddy gives him a choice. “Timmy you eat the hot dog or give it to Frank” Timmy says “leave it on plate” Frank says “Timmy, that is not a choice”

3/29 - Frank eating his vitamin… “Mommy, do you know why I suck on my vitamin?” “I need some juice to get going. Juice is my oil.”

3/31 - Frank wanted something and I said no. Then he won’t stop asking so I said I think about it. He told me “I’ll think about it means No!” I guess I’ve overused that trick.

Franklin says sorry

Saturday, March 6th, 2010 by diane

The complete story begins in the morning when Frank and Timmy were playing outside. Timmy comes in calling mommy and crying. “Frank pinch me!” Frank defends himself “I said sorry.” Why did you pinch him? “He wouldn’t let me carry him.” Apparently Frank was helping Timmy go down the big rocky steps and wanted to help by carrying him. Good thing Timmy has more sense. Anyways, this gets resolved and we move on to later part of the story. In the afternoon again Frank and Timmy is outside playing. We start to hear some crying. Then Frank saying “I’m sorry”. Still crying and calling “mommy”. Then Frank yelling “sorry!” Then screaming “SORRY” but the crying and calling mommy doesn’t stop. Finally they all come inside and Timmy runs to me and says “Frank pinched me.” Why did you pinch him? Frank says he didn’t. Well, what did you do? Frank says “I don’t know…” Well then why were you saying sorry. Frank says “cuz he was crying mommy.”

End of February updates

Sunday, February 28th, 2010 by diane

Frank goes to the potty with his Lego catalogs. But daddy was in the potty so Frank couldn’t get his catalog so I told him to just knock and ask. He said “Daddy says get out of here.” Which is exactly what Nat says.

I asked Frank which princess is in the picture and he said I can’t remember. Like grandpa says hi Timmy to me and I’m not Timmy.

Timmy continues to say “tankqu” for thank you even when he should be saying you’re welcome. Frank on the other hand screams and whines when we remind him to say it. Although Timmy being rewarded and complimented for being so polite is rubbing off some on Frank and he will say it after Timmy.

Timmy wants to do everything himself. “do di zip, do di close, do di…”

Timmy has a different name for the Cat in the Hat. It is Hop on Pop. Because that was the first book he read with the early reader symbol on it.

Frank asks lots of questions. Everything is why and how come. Even Timmy says how come. Good thing he is just repeating what he hears. So one day I was tired of answering so the conversation went like this:
Frank: why is there fog?
Me: why do you have a peegu (butt)?
Frank: to chu (poop)
Me: why do you have a head?
Frank: to see.
Me: why do you have cheeks?
Frank: I don’t need my cheek. But you can kiss them so that’s why I guess

The two kids are learning to negotiate… We come home from preschool and I told him daddy made mac and cheese. He saw there was corndog and started to whine. Go figure. That is his favorite food for lunch. Anyways then we gave him the mac and cheese and Timmy the corndog. Then of course he wanted the corndog. It went on and on the whining. I kept explaining to him he didn’t want it and Timmy did. So eventually he started to negotiate with Timmy.
Frank: You can have a bite of my corndog, pretend corndog. (His attempt at sharing so Timmy will have to share)
Timmy: blank stare.
Frank: Share a piece of corndog please.
Timmy: no
Frank: Then you can’t go on the motorboat. You (when he doesn’t get what he wants, the consequences for the other party comes)
Timmy: ok
Frank: You are going to turn into a corndog so I’m gonna eat you up.
Timmy: ok
Frank: Um (making eating actions)

We started a star system where Frank does “HW” (tracing and coloring) to earn stars and trade them in for prizes. We learned this from Auntie Maggie’s house and Frank was excited until he got all the candy out of his prize box. Apparently markers and pencils and stickers were not as appealing to him. So what is he into? LEGO! So we got him a bunch of LEGOs in his prize box and now he is properly motivated. We are also starting to trace Chinese words and will start on the MeiZhou Chinese booklets in March.

Frank and some interesting ideas

2/8 - We are into playing pretend camping again. So I set up the little tent in his room and we started to put things in and all huddled in there with a picnic basket and books. I got a pillow. Out of nowhere Frank says “Skunks fong pi (farts) alot.” He peeks out the tent and says, “No skunks outside the tent.” Then he tells me “they moved to where is cold, like Russia. Russia is cold right mommy?” I said yes. Later back to the skunk topic but now they have been eaten by alligators.

We are writing Valentines this week for all the kids in school and one for Timmy too. Timmy goes to the toddler playgroup and comes home with a free Valentine book. Frank wants it. So Frank said, “Timmy let me have the book.” Timmy says “NO” Frank says “Then I won’t give you a Valentine present. No one will give you a Valentine present if you want that (book).” That is pretty cruel. Good thing Timmy just ignores him.

We are also doing some Chinese words with Chinese New Year coming. Frank has been reading some books with a little boy that talks about the chinese characters looking like pictures. So we were tracing words from 1 to 9. Afterwards he told me the 8 looked like person in the Xiao Ming book. Something is being absorbed.

Frank has some interesting things to say

At breakfast Frank finished his muffin before Timmy. Timmy is playing around with his food and Frank says “Timmy, are you gonna eat that muffin or should I?” Timmy puts the muffin in his mouth and Frank says “good choice!”

Frank goes to potty. He is talking to himself. I need one had to hold down my jiji and two hands to hold my LEGO magazine. I only have 2 hands. I need to buy a hand at the hand store.

Frank reads the seahorse book Great Grandma sent him for Christmas. I asked him “do you know who sent that to you?” He says “Yeah. Great grandma. Cuz she always love seahorses.”

Frank tells us that he wants to be four and then start over. Stay at four or start from zero? Zero! Then you can’t have candy or play or ride bike or eat steak…. He asks alot of whys and reconsiders. Frank got alot of LEGO from when Nat and Alex are young. He looks over those catalogs and says he wants this and that. We tell him they don’t make it anymore. He says “when daddy starts over and is little again he can get them.” When does daddy start over. After he is 100, he starts over. Frank is a believer in reincarnation I suppose.

Frank wanted to walk in the woods with me. So we walked the trail from down the cul-de-sac around the back and returned to our house. He didn’t like the foam in one of the pond areas. When we got to our house he wanted to do it again and took off. I tried to catch him but was too slow. I came back to the house and looked down the cul-de-sac. No Frank. Hmmm… Then he ran out of the house and started to cry. I miss you mommy. I couldn’t find you. Well Frank I was behind you, how come you didn’t stop to wait for me. I don’t know. I don’t like the soap bubbles. I miss you mommy. Finally we calmed down and decided next time we will say meet you at the bridge, or meet you at home or stop and wait.

Today Frank was playing stickers and suddenly he heard a noise. Who was that? I tell him it is daddy. Frank says “He was just here.” I agree and tells him that daddy is fast. Frank says “Yeah, faster then a snail, I bet.” He can’t possible already know sarcasm.
