Life in the Boonies

Another 2 weeks and Timmy is going to be 6 months old.  He is starting to crawl and get into Frank’s things.  Frank would say no Timmy and pushes everything away out of reach.  Timmy moves closer and Frank says no Timmy.  But when Timmy drops things on the floor, Frank loves to go pick it up and give it back to him.  He likes to say “no doodlebug, don’t drop it on the floor”.

Timmy is eating up a storm.  He started with carrots and quickly progressed to greenbeans, squash, sweet potatoes, eggplant.  Carrots were his favorite and it took a few times before he took anything else.  He also didn’t like the multigrain consistency at first after rice cereal.  Now daddy has made more carrots, butternut squash, and yam.  They all look the same in the ice cube tray.  Timmy loves apricot, as does Frank.  Timmy got his first try gnawing on mommy’s and was so mad when mom ate the last bite.  Later daddy chopped up some just for him.  Today we mashed some bananas for him and it was a big hit.  No avocado yet since mom and Frank usually leaves none behind.  But soon.  So far Timmy eats solids 2 times a day.  Lunch and dinner each with 1-2 cubes of veg mixed with 1-2 oz of milk and about 3 Tbs cereal.  Timmy gnaws on his toes while eating and makes a big mess.  Frank laughs hysterically and tells Timmy no eating toes.

Timmy sleeps really well when we stay home so he doesn’t fall asleep in the car.  He naps 3 times, around 9am, 1pm and 4:30pm.  The morning one he sleeps anywhere from 1 to 2 hours.  Same with the midday one.  The last one usually lasts 30 mins unless he didn’t sleep well for the first 2 naps.   Then he sleeps through the night more or less from 8pm to 6am.  Some days he sleeps later than 6 if Frank isn’t up and about making noises.  Most days we are all up around 6am.

Timmy is not happy.  We are not sure why.  Maybe new teeth?  Possibly HUNGRY!  While mom had surgery and couldn’t feed Timmy for awhile, he got his first taste of rice cereal since he refuses to drink from the bottle.  Now he seems to be crying all the time and nursing gets him happy for about 10 min.  He started on carrots, then peas, squash, and sweet potato.  Yesterday he pooped two times and they were HUGE.  He must have emptied out his tummy cuz then he would not stop eating.  One jar (2.5 oz) of sweet potato, 2T cereal with milk, then he was no longer screaming.  Then daddy gave him a bath and then he ate another jar of carrots.  Nursed both sides before bedtime at 7ish.  Still woke up at 4ish and screamed and screamed.  The past two night he did that he went back to sleep.  Not this time.  Daddy patted several times and finally mom gave in and nursed him at 5ish.  He then happily played til 6 and mom nursed him again and he went back to sleep.  Maybe growth spurt?

Timmy found his foot.  He is starting to grab at his right foot and gnaw on the footed sleeper.  He can sit up for a few seconds without any help before toppling over.  He doesn’t like to sit in the Bumbo seat for too long.  He is starting to move around scooting and rolling.  He tries so hard to crawl with his legs pushing and butt in the air.  He does manage to move around some before he gets mad.
